Things We Need Most in the World

I read an article by David Sobel who thought his leap to create a creative life was a failure just because it landed him in the psych ward. But really, where else can you get that kind of material? Maybe he needed to go there to better understand one of his unwritten characters for the next great American novel. Maybe the universe was opening things up for him. Maybe the net did appear.

I got to read his article and was totally inspired by what seemed to him like a total disaster. I can think of a lot of people who would trade cubicle-life for a little R & R at the mental hospital.

Do you have to quit your job and take a quick trip over the cuckoo’s nest to create the life of your dreams? Not necessarily. But if you do end up there, it doesn’t mean you’re at the end of the road. I needed that guy’s story. Maybe, someone else needs to hear yours.
